Q & A With Our Brand Partners & Design Friends

Q & A With Our Brand Partners & Design Friends

In addition to providing high-quality plants & accessories, we also want to provide advice and inspiration from those we consider to be influential leaders in design, product selection, and style.  Sometimes we find people who have a great influence on the product we source because of their ability to define a perfect look, color scheme, or product assortment.   There is something that makes a home better when it has perfect balance.   We'd like to introduce a few of our favorite partners and answers to some questions we asked them.   Enjoy!

Design trends seem to constantly change.  What do you see as trending designs this year that will be most popular?

Black is always in fashion, but this year it is really showing up as an accent color - interior doors, walls, textiles, and accessories! Natural wood tones and lots of heavy greenery is also in.

Picking paint colors can be exhausting.  Do you have any tips or tricks?

Search designer and stylists’ posts and blogs on Instagram and Pinterest - they have done a lot of the work for you. Then when you’re ready to paint, narrow down your selection to 3-5 colors and pick up color matched samples at your hardware or home improvement store.

There are millions of home goods and decor options available.  What characteristics do you look for when picking products for your projects and home?

We work within the perimeters of monetary budgets and deadlines, so we look for quality items that are affordable to our clients, and for those without a lengthy manufacturing or delivery time.

Can you give advice to someone starting with a blank slate in a room and very little design experience?

Find your source of inspiration (whether it be a throw pillow, rug, piece of art or nature) and then begin to research and assemble your design from there. Use rooms from Instagram and Pinterest as mood boards to help guide you.

Sometimes kitchen products are all function and no beauty.   What are your favorite tools that are both useful and look great?

Ceramic pitchers, serving platters, teapots and cake stands

Design trends seem to constantly change.  What do you see as trending designs this year that will be most popular?

I think we are going to see a big change in colors and patterns. In the past for neutral there has been a lot of greys, I think it's going to move more towards white for the walls instead of the greys. Also, I think blush colors are going to be big and dark greens. For texture, we will see lots of wood and wallpapers with floral patterns. I think we will see velvet come in this year also. I’m thinking more greenery from plants as well as more simple spaces.

Picking paint colors can be exhausting.  Do you have any tips or tricks?

It’s so hard to pick a paint color, especially from a little two-inch square sample. I know I can never choose what I like until I see it on my wall. I recommend picking a few of your favorites and getting some samples of that paint color and paint a little section of your wall with each color to see what you like best on your wall. Paint will also not look the same in every room due to the different lighting and the size of the room, so make sure you try it in different rooms with different lighting as well. Leave the samples up a few days before making your decision, so you have had a chance to really see it in your space.

There are millions of home goods and decor options available.  What characteristics do you look for when picking products for your projects and home?

I like to choose items that I can move easily, that are able to go in multiple rooms of my home and that are nonseasonal so they can be used all year. Also if the item has a multi-purpose, such as can be used for storage as well or helps with organization in an area then that’s a big plus for me. I’m also attracted to wood and metal in décor and I have a lot of it throughout my home, so if it has one or both of those elements then it’s probably coming home with me.

Can you give advice to someone starting with a blank slate in a room and very little design experience?

Stay neutral for the big items like furniture, and add color and patterns with throw pillows, curtains and area rugs.  Use baskets and trays, a plant and some wall décor to add some texture to the space. Keep it simple, you don’t have to decorate every inch of the space.

Sometimes kitchen products are all function and no beauty.   What are your favorite kitchen tools that are both useful and look great?

I use my cutting boards every day, I have several and I like to lean them against my backsplash on my counter and display them when not in use. I also love using wooden mixing spoons and spatulas, I place them in a white crock and keep it on my counter for easy access to them. I’m always measuring something for a recipe, so I leave my ceramic measuring cups out on a round wood slice tray along with my white ceramic salt cellar and a few white bowls. they look so pretty and make great kitchen decor when they are all nested together.

Design trends seem to constantly change.  What do you see as trending designs this year that will be most popular?

I would say the Modern Farmhouse Style.

Picking paint colors can be exhausting.  Do you have any tips or tricks?

I usually pick up a couple sample paints I like and apply in the room to see at different time and lighting.

There are millions of home goods and decor options available.  What characteristics do you look for when picking products for your projects and home?

I always try to find something affordable, something that I can use all seasons.

Can you give advice to someone starting with a blank slate in a room and very little design experience?

I would start with :

The color of the room and how much natural light is in the room. Where I should set up my furniture.  Decorate the walls.  Rugs and Throw Pillows are a must have.
